Fishing the Miramichi requires a specific tactical approach, both to stay hooked up and to comply with local fisheries regulations.
Local rules mandate single hooks on subsurface lures, including hard baits and twitchbaits. Without the security of trailing trebles to foul-hook a fish on a lazy swipe, your connection needs to be flawless.
When a striper tracks down a subsurface twitchbait, a 1 oz+ paddle tail swimbait, or a soft jerkbait on an explosive boat-side eat, you need to drive a thick, single hook into a tough jaw immediately. This requires heavy-action rods with fast tips, backed up by a line system that delivers instant energy transfer on the sweep. Any excess stretch in your line means missed opportunities and lost fish, making line selection critical to your success.

Heavy-Duty Mainline Performance: Yo-Zuri SuperBraid

Throwing heavy swimbaits and subsurface twichbaits all day is tough on mainline.  On high-volume days, lesser braids often soften and dig into the spool after repeated hook sets and the pressure of fighting and landing fish.  This can lead to frustrating backlashes on the next cast.
